What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Training Specialist position at Kalamazoo RESA?
The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) is a critical part of Michigan’s education system serving the Greater Kalamazoo region and provides specialized services to schools and communities and optimizes resources by centralizing innovative programs and services. We partner with school districts and the broader community to offer essential programs including early childhood education, special education, career learning, and educator development, ensuring that learners of all ages receive the support they need.
We are currently seeking a Transportation Training Specialist at the KRESA Service Center in Portage, Michigan. The essential responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and provide all school bus driver training classes and activities
- Create, update and perform transportation supervisor training classes and activities
- Coordinate all EATON training activities in defensive driving classes
- Coordinate all CDL/GDL activities and supervise trainers
- Participate in all TAAM (Training Agency Association of Michigan) activities
- Participate in MAPT/MSBO Transportation activities
- Serve as Region 14 representative
- Support and assist with Transportation Supervisor monthly meetings
- Respond to requests from parents, bus drivers, supervisors, and district administrators
- Review bus stops upon request from districts
- Coordinate and provide bus driver professional development for districts
- Assist as a contact for VersaTrans Routing Software (exception: technical issues)
- Assist with Head Start transportation on busing issues
- Work with TAAM on curriculum for bus drivers in the State of Michigan with the oversite from Michigan Department of Education
- Set up classes and trainings for schools in school bus safety
- Answer all calls from schools on transportation safety concerns
- Coordinate Reasonable Suspicion Training for supervisors
- Coordinate bus safety training with Head Start students
- Maintain record of and be knowledgeable of all safety and code requirements of the State, local and board of education guidelines
- Work with districts on hiring / training drivers and aids
- Work with Superintendent on inclement weather school closing decision making – snow days – to check on road conditions and determine if safe for bus operations
Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education & experience. Department of Transportation training and certification are required. DOT Trainer Certification, CDL (if not current must get within the first 3 months).
This is a 12 month position in job grade 15T with an annual rate of pay between $49,757.04 and $69,342.48.
