The primary responsibility of the person in this position is to provide limited supervision for a designated group of custodial employees; and to assist the Custodial Services Manager with special projects. Individuals in this position may serve as emergency area leaders. An additional responsibility of all persons assigned to this job title is to support the instructional mission of the institution and to promote positive student and customer relations
Specific Responsibilities of this Position Include:
Kalamazoo Valley is seeking a full-time Custodial Supervisor. The primary responsibility of the person in this position is to provide limited supervision for a designated group of custodial employees; and to assist the Custodial Services Manager with special projects. Individuals in this position may serve as emergency area leaders. An additional responsibility of all persons assigned to this job title is to support the instructional mission of the institution and to promote positive student and customer relations
Specific Responsibilities of this Position Include:
- Supervise a designated area/group of employees performing custodial services; assist with the prioritizing and scheduling of work/work orders and ensure work complies with specifications; monitor custodial operations in compliance with local, state and federal codes and guidelines; conduct inspections; assist with the review of the emergency notification system and recommend appropriate course of action.
- Provide custodial services; sweep, dust, mop, vacuum, remove waste, process recycling, clean/disinfect restrooms, maintain restroom supplies; wash/clean windows/mirrors, spot clean walls, and related cleaning/custodial services; complete special project work, direct the efforts of crew; set up table and chairs for events; assist moving crews in loading, transporting and unloading office furniture; remove snow/ice from walks, distribute salt/ice melt, empty outdoor waste receptacles, pick up litter, and clean up after outdoor events; and provide delivery service.
- Participate in hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating assigned staff; complete required paperwork, maintenance records/work orders; assist with meetings; and, recommend technical training needs.
- Assist and advise on matters related to custodial services; assist supervisor with special projects; assist with or supervise the completion of special projects [e.g. wood floor refinishing, concrete refinishing, high window/light work]; fill in for supervisor as needed; and, assist other Facilities Services Departments when needed.
- Conduct security rounds of buildings and property; secure area and/or buildings; open buildings; provide escort service for employees transporting cash to/from safe; provide assistance to building inhabitants during emergency situations; participate in evacuation processes; and, maintain security documents and records.
Specific Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, custodial services, operations and equipment.
- Knowledge of acceptable supervisory practices.
- Knowledge of acceptable custodial and maintenance practices.
- Skill in safely operating, maintaining and performing repairs on various types of custodial and cleaning equipment.
- Skill in planning, organizing and overseeing the work of subordinates.
- Skill in maintaining adequate supplies and inventory records.
- Skill in conducting inspections to determine compliance with standards
Supervision Exercised
Functional supervision is exercised over approximately twelve full-time support staff and four part-time support staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education equivalent to a high school diploma and experience

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; climb ladders up to 6 feet high; push/pull up to 100 lbs on wheels; stand, bend, walk for extended periods of time; and perform routine repetitive hand/arm movements for cleaning purposes.
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm-11:30 pm, additional hours may be required.
