Kalamazoo Valley is seeking an experienced educator to teach EDU 230 Early Childhood Teaching and Learning during the upcoming summer semester. We would like this person to also be able to teach the course in the fall semester during daytime hours.
Key Aspects of EDU 230
The purpose of this course is to prepare early childhood educators with the theoretical foundations of development for children ages birth through eight years. Students will apply theory into practice by learning formal and informal assessments which are developmentally appropriate. Based on these assessments, the students will apply instruction and intervention to meet the needs of the young child. As a result, the students will learn how to develop individualized learning goals for diverse learners with their caregivers and family. This comprehensive course will be based on the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards. These standards include factors that influence a child’s development such as cultural and linguistic context, economic conditions of the family, health status and disabilities, peer and adult relationships, opportunities to play and learn, community characteristics, and the impact of technology and media.
