This full-time position reports to the Captain of Public Safety, and performs law enforcement functions on the grounds and around the perimeters of all Kalamazoo Valley Community College sites.

Duties include
- Patrolling campus locations and surrounding streets.
- Enforcing local and state laws and parking regulations.
- Providing service functions including directing traffic and assistance to students and staff.
- Responding to emergency situations of accidental, medical, industrial and criminal nature and taking appropriate action as needed.
- Investigating criminal and non-criminal incident complaints received from the college community.
- Writing reports involving incidents for presentation to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office and/or the Student Relations Coordinator.
- Working with students and staff on crime prevention issues.
- Developing and presenting related training as appropriate,
- Other related tasks.
Duties include
- Collecting, organizing, requesting and recording information to maintain and monitor MIOSHA compliance requirements including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for each chemical in use at the Institution.
- Training and updating the written plan.
- Serving as the key contact within Institutional Safety for all safety record keeping and Banner information; review and recommend updates to maintain Safety information systems; conduct/oversee safety inspections; coordinate environmental and employee safety training programs; and, develop, organize, schedule and/or conduct training programs.
- Conduct facility and equipment inspections; document findings, prepare and distribute safety citations.
- Recommend methods to reduce and/or eliminate hazards.
- Maintain and monitor operational permits and certificates for facilities and/or equipment.
- Schedule and facilitate inspections by outside agencies.
- Coordinate the hazardous waste management programs.
- Maintain all required records and statistics; and, prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies.
- Assist with updating all emergency procedures, exit and shelter maps.
- Assist with updating emergency management program.
- Must be a current Public Safety Officer at Kalamazoo Valley.
- Associate's degree in appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MCOLES certification required.
- Candidates selected to interview for this position will be required to submit to a criminal record background check and a credit history check.
- First aid/CPR certification strongly desired.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local criminal and safety laws.
