Primary Purpose: Under indirect supervision, accurately and efficiently certify/recertify WIC participants based upon Federal regulations and State of Hawaii Department of Health WIC policies using the HIWIC computer system. Assists in all aspects of WIC services. Supports the mission, goals and objectives of Kalihi-Palama Health Center |
Essential Duties:
· Accurately orients participants to the WIC program
· Able to use audio visual equipment for WIC orientation video · Accurately explains the WIC program/history/foods approved · Able to accurately and efficiently certify/recertify WIC participants based upon Federal regulations, and State of Hawaii Department of Health WIC policies · Complete presumptive eligibility whenever possible and schedule follow up accordingly · Can accurately, verbally outline and record all aspects of WIC eligibility requirements, ID, household income eligibility and what documents are required to prove eligibility and Med-Quest verification
· Accurately determines and records first and second authorized caregivers · Accurately able to verbally explain e-WIC card · Accurately able to issue and activate e-WIC card · Accurately able to assist setting participants PIN · Able to direct participants in resetting/unlocking e-WIC pin using IVR number · Ability to deactivate card, set appointment for participants to retrieve new card · Able to retrieve and assess necessary foster care documents and legal guardianship documents · Ability to follow policies and procedures to issue e-WIC card and benefits to foster clients
· Checks participants address/zip and phone number at each visit · Answer the phone, take messages and return phone calls in a timely manner
· Accurately measures, records, and interprets anthropometric data · Accurately measures (Masimo), records and interprets hematological data · Must be effective in motivational interviewing · Must be effective in setting and documenting SMART goals with WIC clients · Accurately creates standard and tailored food packages · Accurately creates Special Authorized food packages with approved authority · Issue e-WIC benefits/explain usage · Can correctly verbally discuss all WIC eligible foods/formula · Able to void and re-issue-WIC cards/WIC benefits · Able to modify benefit issuance/retailor foods · Correctly does nutrition education (NE) contacts for all low-risk clients, read medical notes, gets needed forms and makes correct next appointment · Correctly provides appropriate follow-up nutrition education counseling to high-risk clients after seeing the registered dietitian at least once per certification · Follow "Special Formula and Medical Nutritional Products Issuance Guide" to complete special authorization in HIWIC with approved authority · Able to follow Special Formula ordering, receiving and issuing guidelines · Able to look up history of contacts to determine if cards were signed electronically · Able to do monthly time study for State Department of Health WIC office · Able to provide nutrition education for pregnant women, breastfeeding women and postpartum women · Able to provide nutrition education for infants and children (i.e. breastfeeding, bottle use, low iron, overweight, underweight, etc.)
· Able to assess WIC clients and appropriately refer high risk clients to the WIC Registered Dietitian
· Retrieve WIC referrals in Centricity (KPHC EMR) · Schedule and complete WIC referrals in HIWIC in a timely manner according to standards
· Document and assist with voter registration · Document immunization status · Scan all necessary and required documents in HIWIC · Accurately documents WIC Rights and Responsibilities signature(s) for primary and alternate caregivers · Able to follow ethical guidelines and assure participant confidentiality on all information (HIPAA). · Able to provide interpretation in proficient language(s) · Regular and reliable on-site attendance is required. |

Minimum Qualification Requirements: Education: · High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required · BS in Nutrition Experience: Previous experience working with children/infants preferred Skills/Knowledge: · Competent with computers, office machines and office procedures · Must be able to work well with culturally and socio-economically diverse staff and participants · Able to speak and write English well · Bilingual preferred · Willing to be a critical thinker, assume leadership and support the KPHC-WIC team · Highly organized · Able to do simple accounting, mathematically inclined · Able to work calmly and effectively under stressful situations · A team player · Able to follow ethical guidelines and assure confidentiality of client information · Familiar with community resources and programs · Genuinely wants to help WIC participants · Able to work alone and with initiative · Able to train other staff in HIWIC, WIC and nutrition education Kalihi-Palama Health Center is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity, and values the ways in which we are different.
