Summary of Functions
Coordinates fellow lifeguards’ schedules and provides training for the team. They will be responsible for the opening and closing of the Aquatic area and procedures. Aquatic Coordinator will also be responsible for facility safety, programs, and member service development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
PREVENTIVE LIFEGUARDING
- Make sure lifeguards are doing their job accurately,
- Work with guards to improve through training.
- Must work collectively to cover each other’s shifts (a shift supervisor must be always on duty).
- Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool with emphasis on the prevention of accidents.
- Maintain order and enforce pool rules.
- Provide and coordinate the safe use of all equipment.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Record daily attendance.
- Uphold all Camas Center policies.
- All accident reports will be handed to the into Director of Recreation.
- Membership retention.
- Check in and out on timecard.
- Coordinate exercise programs in the aquatic area.
- Coordinate and conduct safety training programs for the Aquatic department.
- Coordinate and instruct new recruits for certifications
- Assists in the daily operations and supervision as directed by the Aquatic Manager
MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hose and bucket deck each evening after closing.
- Check pool chemicals and record. Notify manager of unacceptable levels.
- Clean office each evening after closing. Equipment stored in proper place.
- Inform manager of any needed repairs.
EMERGENCY ACTION PLANS
- Follow the emergency action plan as described in the emergency procedure guide.
- Follow the chain of command in all emergencies.
- Inspect and keep pool area, first aid and life-saving equipment in readiness at all times.
OTHER
- Dress code upheld.
- Camas Center code of conduct upheld.
- Coordinate and conduct all in-service training programs and staff meetings.
- To do related work as requested by the manager.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises 12-16 employees. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education
- High school diploma, or general education degree (GED).
Experience
- Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years as a Certified Lifeguard Trainer
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of our organization.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
