Summary of Functions
The Camas Center Group Exercise Instructor will be responsible for conducting exercise classes while adhering to the Camas Center Health and Fitness guidelines and policies set to ensure a safe, informative and fun class.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safety and well being of each individual in class.
- Experience in leading a group exercise class of any style and create exercise routines to lead a group through a 30 to 90 minute exercise class
- Allow time before and after class for participant interaction, set-up, take-down and class preparation
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and master class or certification offerings
- Responsible for communication to the Health and Fitness Manager of class needs or concerns, substituting needs and situations that may come up in class
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate movements and modifications of exercises and routines
- Ability to maintain tempo to music and choose appropriate music type and speed for designated class
- Ability to demonstrate great leadership skills to motivate class participants and help them achieve their fitness goals
- Ability to monitor participants and meet their specific needs
- Continue to strive for excellence in learning new techniques and chorography by maintaining certifications and attending local workshops when offered

This professional should provide a well-rounded, integrated response to the membership and program needs of members of the Camas Center. The comprehensive management of member-related program areas will enhance membership retention and recruitment activities.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
- 6 months to 1 year experience in the Health & Fitness field
- 1-2 years of experience working as a Group Exercise Instructor.
Other Requirements
- CPR required; First Aid required; Principles of Health and Fitness within 6 months of date of hire; Bloodborne Pathogens training within 3 months of hire; any recognized Fitness Instructor or Personal Fitness certification is preferable.
- Hepatitis B vaccination required.
Physical Demands
- This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Requires heavy physical effort such as continual lifting and carrying of heavy loads, or frequent work involving considerable physical strain for sustained periods. Employee is subject to continued exposure to health and safety hazards
- Ability to coordinate adult, senior and youth strength and cardiovascular fitness programs
- Ability to perform technical skills of Camas Center Fitness Testing
- Ability to use a computer
- Conduct appropriate preventive equipment and maintenance and Fitness Center cleaning
- This position requires significant amounts of standing or walking.
- This position requires occasional local and out of town travel to meetings and conferences.
- This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
