JOB SUMMARY
This role is responsible for analyzing and managing cost structures, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and optimizing cost efficiency within the production process. The Cost Accountant will collaborate with operations, finance, and sales to provide insights that drive profitability and cost control.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Experience: 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (plastics manufacturing is a plus)
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, standard costing, and financial analysis
- Proficiency in ERP systems and accounting software (SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, etc.)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles or cost reduction initiatives
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Effective communication skills for presenting financial insights to non-financial teams
- Strong passion to learn
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Estimating/Costing:
- Manages pricing efforts to ensure timely quote responses, meeting customer expectations and profitability requirements of the business
- Initial BOM Creation and Costing
- Gather pricing variables from both internal and external sources
- Work closely with production and supply chain teams to optimize cost structures and provide best value proposition to customers
- Support outside sales team as necessary
- Communicate with other departments to ensure successful product launch process
- Monitor and analyze costing variables (production, material, labor, and overhead costs)
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and areas for improvement
- Compare actual vs standard vs budgeted costs
- Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead
- Develop and implement cost accounting best practices
- Financial Reporting & Budgeting:
- Prepare cost reports and financial statements related to manufacturing operations
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing cost-related insights
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities related to cost accounting
- Support accounting functions as necessary
