What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic-2nd shift position at Kamps Pallets?
The position of Maintenance Mechanic is a challenging position in a fast paced, pallet recycling facility designed to sort, repair, store, receive and ship pallets. The position requires excellent communication skills, computer skills, strong leadership ability, and be highly motivated. The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for one hourly maintenance associate. The Maintenance Mechanic position reports directly to the Plant Manager.
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. In addition, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for achieving safety goals and objectives, budgets, Standard Work Practices, production standards, daily maintenance inventory management, safety, Preventive Maintenance programs, Lockout / Tagout programs, Hot Work protocol, Fire Safety programs, and sanitation/housekeeping requirements.
- Machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools and systems. Hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, electronic systems, PLC, and production machines and equipment.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments.
- Welding, cutting and brazing.
- The position requires the Maintenance Mechanic occasionally fill in for limited periods of time to operate sortation equipment, painting equipment, hostling, clerical, and operation of a forklift. The Maintenance Mechanic shall be available to work shifts with starting times around the clock including weekends and holidays.
- Maintenance Mechanic locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Lubricates and cleans parts
- Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintaining PM programs as required by our third party and equipment suppliers.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations such as Lockout / Tag Out protocols.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Skills/Qualifications: Equipment Maintenance, Technical Understanding, Technical Zeal, Deals with Uncertainty, Basic Safety, Power Tools, Attention to Detail, Flexibility, Supervision, Job Knowledge, Productivity, hydraulic, pneumatics, and electronics. Qualified Lockout / Tagout experience. Hot work procedures. CDL is a plus.
