What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Attendant position at Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association?
Animal Care Attendants are responsible for the overall care and cleaning of all animal housing at the shelter. Animal Care Attendants work in many different areas of the shelter which include the kennels, cat rooms, puppy room and some train up into running daily playgroups with the dogs. The ACA will rinse, scrub and disinfect the kennels and housing each day while the dogs are out in playgroups. They are also responsible for feeding, watering and providing basic oral medications twice daily. The ACA job can be quite demanding in that it is an extremely physical job. ACA's are on their feet the majority of the shift and will be expected to bend, stoop and kneel constantly. While physical, it is also rewarding as they are the ones providing care for the shelter animals. In addition to cleaning, they will also help with laundry and dishes. Once the animal shelter opens to the public, the ACA's will also help the customers retrieve dogs from the kennels and help to answer questions about the animals. The position is part time and shifts depend on the assigned area of animal care but can range anywhere from 7:30am - 6:00pm with up to 25-30 hours per week. If you're an active person and enjoy working with animals, you will fit in well here!
A high school degree or equivalent is required. Previous animal care experience is preferred but not required. Customer service experience preferred but not required.
