What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sentencing Advocate position at KANAWHA COUNTY PUBLIC DEFENDER OFFICE?
The Kanawha County Public Defenders Office is seeking a full time Sentencing Advocate. Duties include, but are not limited to, clinically assessing criminal defendants for substance abuse, mental health disorders, trauma and or other mitigating factors in developing alternative sentencing and mitigation options.
The Sentencing Advocate will develop alternative mitigation, sentence memorandums and treatment plans based on the induvial needs and level of care required. They will collaborate with the assigned defense attorney by proving recommendations based on their assessments that then can be use in court on behalf of the client to ensure proper placement of care. They will also assist clients in overcoming barriers to employment, locating proper housing, and will them to other appropriate resources.
Graduation from a four year college or university, preferably in the field of social work or physiology preferred. Experience with legal social work preferred, but not required.
