Overview:
Kanawha County Schools is obligated under State Law to place CERTIFIED SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS in classrooms. However, the law does provide some flexibility to local school
districts to use non-certified individuals in areas of critical need to supplement its substitute pool on a day-to-day basis as a last resort. Student Teachers who currently hold a Student Teaching Permit and have graduated from an accredited instiution may substitute during the remainder of their Student Teaching Permit.
Qualifications:
To be considered for as a non-certified substitute on a Student Teaching Permit, Kanawha County Schools requires an individual to hold a current Student Teaching Permit
Completed on-line application.
Official college transcripts.
Letter of interest and resume.
Three letters of reference
The above items must be submitted to Human Resources to be considered for an interview.

Job Goal: The substitute will assume and carryout the daily duties/activities of the regular teacher by instructing students.
Responsibilities:
Develop lesson plans for approval by school principal.
Implements lesson plans to achieve instructional objectives.
Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning;
Check daily papers.
Demonstrate satisfactory teaching techniques
Assume the duties and activities of regular teacher
Supervise students at all times.
Demonstrate respect for privacy of school and pupils
Monitors student progress towards mastery of instructional goals and objectives;
Communicates effectively within the educational community, and with parents on a regular basis;
Meets professional responsibilities, and
Sets high positive expectations for student performance.
Employs a variety of instructional strategies to facilitate student achievement

A negative drug screen at KCS approved lab.
A cleared criminal background check ( $ 28.85 fee paid by applicant)
A negative tuberculin test
A fitness for duty physical
Approval by the school board members
