The Part-time Correctional Transport Officer is responsible for the safe transportation of inmates and ICE detainees as required by the Sheriff's Office. This position may also involve providing security at the courthouse, assisting with jury trials, and performing other duties as directed by the Sheriff.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Safely transport inmates and ICE detainees as needed.Inspect transport vehicles prior to use, including searching the prisoner compartment, and document all inspections.Monitor the condition of transport vehicles and equipment, submitting repair requests as necessary.Communicate with other facilities regarding transport schedules and timing.Prepare and submit various reports and documents as required.Safely transport inmate/detainee property, including medications and checks.Transport meals for inmates/detainees during transit when required.Document transport details such as mileage, times, and other relevant information.Secure inmates/detainees in restraints during transport.Adhere to all policies and procedures applicable to the role.Respond promptly to transport availability communications.Assist with courthouse security as needed, following instructions from full-time security staff.Serve as a jury attendant when required, following established protocols.Participate in training as necessary to maintain POST certification and meet Sheriff's Office requirements.Perform other duties as assigned or required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Strong knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations.Familiarity with courtroom rules and regulations.Ability to read and understand jail policies.Proficiency in understanding and following both written and verbal instructions.Ability to write clear and legible reports.Physical ability to perform tasks requiring coordination, dexterity, and strength, including lifting and moving objects up to 75 pounds.Ability to interact effectively with inmates/detainees, courtroom visitors, and other personnel.Ability to perform tasks that require prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and walking.Ability to work independently and handle routine tasks efficiently.Competent operation of county vehicles in various weather conditions and on different terrain.Dependable work history and an acceptable driving record.U.S. citizenship and successful completion of a thorough background check.Must be available to work on-call part-time, up to 29 hours per week.
