Summary
The purpose of the Account Manager is to provide exceptional day-to-day service to their assigned client accounts by interfacing with various agency specialists to move projects through the agency on behalf of their clients. This role is important because the Account Manager has major input in developing strategic marketing and communications plans for their clients, and after plans are developed, presented to and approved by clients, they are responsible for carrying out the plans on a daily basis. The Account Manager will be challenged by working to learn about and execute projects in many disciplines - from advertising and marketing to digital communications and social media, to public relations and crisis/issues management.
Accountabilities

- Strategy, writing and research support - Under the guidance and direction of your supervisor, you will participate in writing and presenting detailed, well-researched integrated marketing and communication plans for your clients. You may assist in conducting research and analysis, developing content strategies, writing findings reports and developing performance reports, case studies and award submissions. You brief internal teams and outside resources (such as freelance designers/writers, research specialists, web designers, community relations experts, etc.) on strategy, providing the input they need to complete their jobs.
- Scope execution - You are involved in the day-to-day workflow and implementation of approved plans and strategies - working with your team to implement research and communications plans and with other specialists to execute strategies beyond your individual capabilities. You will ensure that everything flows through the proper process, has been approved by the appropriate personnel and has been thoroughly proofread and meets expectations set forth in plans/briefs/standards guides. You may pick up a variety of tasks to ensure scopes of work are executed, from writing content to developing media lists to pitching media.
- Budget reviews and project estimating - You will help to prepare budget worksheets/ estimates and review project budgets weekly - informing your supervisor regularly of progress and involving them immediately in the event of potential budget problems.
- Client relationship management - You will contact and form relationships with day-to-day client contacts, with a focus on providing superior and proactive customer service. You ensure client relations are positive and stable; and that your supervisor is immediately informed of any potential problems with client/agency relations. You will recommend possible solutions, using your on-the-ground knowledge of your client.
- Project scoping - You will gather information from the client and work with internal and external partners to develop proposals or briefs for new client projects or scopes of work under the guidance of your supervisor. With the approval of your supervisor, you may work directly with digital or research partners to obtain proposals and estimates relevant to work requested by or recommended to your clients. As needed, you will recommend and develop change orders.
- Plan writing - For accounts you lead and support, you will develop and support the development of strategic communications plans using the Kane Way process. This includes working with your team to ask questions that clearly define the problem communications need to solve and what success looks like. You will work with your team to develop plans to achieve outcomes for the client that result in a positive business impact as a result of the communications plan or program. Plans will identify the business objective and include communications goals, objectives and KPIs that you work with your team to manage and measure throughout the project.
- Account retention, growth and projections - You will provide exceptional service to your clients - responding to their needs, requests and changes in direction quickly. You stay abreast of the communications, marketing and PR industries as well as your clients’ industries in order to bring new ideas to your client and supervisor. For any accounts you lead without the support of an Account Supervisor, you will work with the individual you report to in order to set annual growth and retention goals, working with your supervisor. You will be trained on how to provide monthly team resourcing and financial projections for clients, which will aid in staff and bandwidth planning.
Qualifications
Required experience and core competencies for this position include:
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in marketing, communications and/or PR-related fields
- A minimum of two years of experience working in an agency environment managing at least one of your own client accounts and balancing work from multiple clients at one time
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- A proven ability to manage teams from multiple different disciplines
- Experience managing meetings directly with senior-level client contacts without the oversight of a senior team member
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to delegate tactical assignments and accurately judge and edit work of others
- Able to produce examples of marketing or PR plans and reports
- Passion for social and narrative change campaigns, corporate communications and the integration of brand research and digital marketing into communications and PR work
