Program Summary:
Kane School is developing a Step Ahead Program for students with gaps in their learning due to numerous transitions in their life that may have impacted their ability to access a consistent education. The Step Ahead Program will provide support and interventions for students who are struggling to access the grade level curriculum given their previous, inconsistent educational history. The program helps students by providing additional academic instruction and/or interventions to support their academic functioning. Students participate in the program from 4 to 12 weeks. The Academic Coach works with students and teachers, supporting students with a goal of increasing their academic skills to successfully access the grade level curriculum more consistently and with more independence.
Job Goal:
To help students with gaps in their learning increase their academic skill levels to work more closely and with more independence in the grade level curriculum.
Statement of Duties:
- Develops and maintains a work tracking and academic data management system for students in the Step Ahead Program.
- Administers a pre and post assessment to measure student progress.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives, including leading tutoring sessions with Step Ahead students.
- Collaborates with the students’ classroom teachers to coordinate a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, including preteaching/reinforcing existing curriculum and developing modular units that addresses learning gaps allowing students to increase their academic skills
- Proactively communicates with teachers and school administrators regarding the academic interventions implemented for students.
- Creates and maintains a safe classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Provides tutoring and guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
- Assesses students' accomplishments daily and provides progress reports to admin and teachers at the end of the week.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and or school committees.
- Participates in staff development programs.
Quali?cations:
- Current and Valid MA DESE license as an elementary teacher preferred; ESL and Special Education experience preferred;
- SEI Endorsement is preferred
- Bilingual candidates (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred Tier 1 - 3 Restorative Justice Trained preferred
- Demonstrated interest in teaching students struggling with complex challenges
- Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the work involved
- Such additional quali?cations as the Superintendent may ?nd appropriate and acceptable Bachelor’s Degree preferred; equivalent education and experience considered
- Teaching and/or tutoring experience, especially with high-risk students, is preferred Strong communication and organization skills
