Summary
The Paralegal will work under the supervision of the supervising attorney(s) and provide support to the Bankruptcy / Corporate Litigation group and other attorneys throughout the Firm. Responsibilities include case organizing, analyzing, communicating, researching, and writing. The paralegal will coordinate schedules, draft legal documents, and communicate with parties and possess an analytical and logical mind and be able to resolve conflicts and relate well with various types of persons, often when these persons are in distress. Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Requirements
- Ability to work under the supervision of the assigned attorney(s) and provide support to the Bankruptcy/ Corporate Litigation group.
- Draft legal documents such as notices, discovery, affidavits, subpoenas, preparing trial exhibits, correspondence, and more for review and approval by an attorney.
- Preparation of deposition summaries for use in mediation and trial.
- Knowledge of e-filing procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients, court personnel, counsel, third parties, private investigators, medical providers, experts, etc., and maintain regular contact with all parties.
- Performs factual investigations and analysis of file data.
- Ability to review and organize case records per firm procedures.
- Must be highly organized and maintain electronic and hardcopy case files per firm procedures.
- Consistent follow-through and ability and flexibility to multi-task and effectively balance priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Skill to coordinate multi calendar schedules for attorneys and legal staff and maintain a balanced calendar when scheduling multiple case related matters such as case meetings, court proceedings, third party meetings, depositions, mediations, trials, etc.
- Assists and/or attends client meetings, hearings, mediations, trials, as assigned.
- Complies with filing system, ensures proper indexing, filing and scanning procedures and proper opening and closing of files, and other appropriate action required (i.e. shredding, record retention, etc.).
- Log and submit case time and expense billing for case files.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of attorneys, clients, customers, employees, vendors and the general public.
- Provides monthly case updates to the team.
- Communicates well, shows teamwork effort, and collaborates well with others.
- Exceptional customer service and people skills.
- Superior problem solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision while exercising sound and independent judgment.
- Maintain competency through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest developments.
- Must have familiarity with the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate preferred by not required.
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree preferred but not required.
- A minimum of 4 to 5 years experience and knowledge working on personal injury matters as a paralegal working in a Texas law firm required.
- Must know all aspects of litigation discovery.
- Must type at least 65 WPM and have exceptional computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Software.
- Experience working with various practice and case management databases (iManage) and timekeeping and billing systems.
- Must possess excellent English communication skills with the ability to speak and write clearly and informatively and able to read and interpret information.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be willing to work additional hours and weekends as required for the role.
- Exceptional communication, customer service, organizational, time management and detail oriented skills required for the role.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
