What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service Associate / Cashier position at Kane's Ace Hardware?

Kane’s ACE Hardware has an opening for a cashier position. This position works in a fast-paced environment, with many priorities. Outstanding customer service is always our number one priority. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn new skills, and an enthusiasm for customer service. The ideal candidate will be able to process transactions in an accurate, efficient and courteous manner while maximizing sales and assisting customers with their home improvement projects.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Count money for cash drawer at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct.
  • Greet all customers entering the store to create a friendly and inviting shopping experience.
  • Scan all items to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Ask each customer if they have Ace Rewards or would like to open an Ace Rewards account and explain the benefits.
  • Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, coupons, or automatic debits.
  • Thank the customer for shopping at Kane’s Ace Hardware.
  • Issue receipts, refund, credits, or change due to customers.
  • Request information or assistance using the store radio system.
  • Offer customers carry-out service at the completion of transactions.
  • Maintain an awareness of all product knowledge information, location, merchandise promotions, and advertisements.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices.
  • Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
  • Any other responsibilities given by management.

Self Initiative - The ability to do what needs to be done without being prompted by others or the willingness to take a fresh approach.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Ladder climbing.
  • Bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Qualifications

Helpful customer service skills

Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends & evenings

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Must possess basic math skills

Experience with a POS system is preferred

Proficient computer skills

Experience with the Epicor system would be beneficial

Reliable transportation and the ability to work weekends are required
