What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor - Accounting position at Kankakee Community College?
The accounting instructor’s primary function is to provide instruction and assess student learning in a variety of accounting courses. The instructor will collaborate with colleagues to maintain and develop curriculum, serve on college committees, and perform other duties appropriate for a faculty member as assigned. The accounting instructor is dedicated to learning college concepts and develops programs and facilitates activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.A. Provides instruction and assess student learning within their program area.
B. Selects and reviews educational strategies and materials to facilitate achievement of competencies related to each course taught.
C. Prepares current syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with course master syllabi, college policies and procedures.
D. Collaborates with colleagues to review and revise curriculum, teaching materials, and teaching methods to promote student success and lifelong learning.
E. Advises, counsels, and assists students enrolled in their program in accomplishing their course and program goals.
F. Meets classes as scheduled by the college and maintain student support hours as stated in the KCC Faculty Association Contract.
G. Evaluates student performance, including maintaining and providing Census Day and midterm attendance in addition to grade records for each class.
H. Remains current with content, technology and teaching and learning strategies in the discipline.
I Assesses student learning outcomes at the class, course, and program levels as defined by the Student Learning Committee.
J. Participates in curriculum and course development.
K. Attends division and faculty meetings and communicate regularly with the division deans regarding instructional concerns.
L. Attends appropriate advisory committee meetings as directed by supervisor.
M. Functions as an academic advisor for students enrolled in their division and assist in the advisement and scheduling process during in-service week.
N. Participates in faculty evaluation and in-service development activities.
O. Works in a collaborative manner and respond to phone and email requests promptly.
P. Assists the division deans in the recruitment and selection of part-time instructors.
Q. Provides course materials and assistance to part-time instructors as requested by the division deans.
R. Serves on college committees as stated in the KCC Faculty Association Contract.
S. Assists in budget preparation by recommending supplies and capital items where applicable.
T. Follows the policies and procedures of the college as stated in the Faculty Handbook and the KCC Faculty Association Contract.
U. Represents and interprets the program informally at available opportunities such as high school visits, community gatherings, etc.
V. Attends the commencement program.
Other Responsibilities:
A. Performs other duties as required or assigned by the division deans.
B. Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis. Appropriate protective devices are available as required.
C. Additional opportunities may occur to teach non transfer courses within the Business/ITSM programs, as appropriate.
D. Leads and completes accounting program reviews as required.A. Master's degree in accounting, or the equivalent with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline (accounting) is required.
B. Prior experience as an excellent, innovative teacher, and with the use of instructional technologies desirable; community college teaching experience preferred.
C. Qualified candidate must have strong reading, writing, communication, and computation skills as well as be computer literate or willing to learn.
D. Instruction may be delivered on the main campus or one of its satellite locations.This is a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position.
