What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Success Advisor position at Kankakee Community College?
The student success advisor’s primary function is to provide individual and group advising services to students. Emphasis is placed on academic planning, communication, and resource development to promote the achievement of students educational, personal, and career goals. This includes the development of a master academic plan to guide students to success and completion. Assistance with scheduling classes and completing the registration process is also provided.
As a member of the student success advising team, the student success advisor will perform other related duties as assigned. The student success advisor is committed to NACADA standards and best practices and facilitates KCC’s initiatives to promote student academic success and lifelong learning.A. Serves as student success advisor to assigned students. Assist students with the development and successful completion of their educational plans.
B. Informs current and prospective students of KCC’s advising services for the purpose of assisting with enrollment growth and student retention efforts.
C. Assists with the assessment of the effectiveness and quality of the student advisement process and services by various means/methods.
D. Participates in staff development initiatives and remains knowledgeable in the utilization of student academic records, assessment information, advising techniques, transfer student advisement, and other topics that improve and enrich the student advisement process.
E. Collaborates with program directors and the division deans to share information relative to specific program requirements and admission criteria.
F. Plans day/evening and occasional Saturday hours for the purpose of academic advising, and other student services related functions.
G. Maintains forms, handouts, and information packets as related to programs for advisee caseload within the assigned guided pathway(s).
H. Attends college-wide convocations, participates in Commencement and other academic events and ceremonies.
I. Interprets and evaluates necessary records to appropriately register students, including but not limited to placement scores/multiple measures, articulation/transfer agreements, and eligibility criteria for competitive entry programs.
J. Serves as liaison with outside organizations to provide students with information and opportunities outside of KCC, not limited to the following: occupational partnerships, study abroad program registration, transfer/articulation conferences with major state colleges and universities, and coordination of annual college & transfer fairs/scheduling table visits from visiting university representatives.A. Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
B. An understanding of and experience with personal, educational, career, and transfer planning highly desirable. Bilingual preferred.
C. Qualified candidate must have strong reading, writing, and computation skills, as well as strong computer experience with Microsoft office or comparable software applications.Hiring range: $52,624 min. - $59,202 1st quartile - $65,780 mid.
