We are seeking a full-time Lead Cloud Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and operations of Garmin's cloud services and will be part of the team that designs, delivers, and supports the systems responsible for the container platform and its associated development tools ecosystem.
Essential Functions
- Look for opportunities to tune / improve the environment with modern solutions and drive excellence while working with other developers and stakeholders of the platform.
- Install, configure, and manage platform-related infrastructure and cluster services in an enterprise environment to support container-based application virtualization via GitOps Design.
- Find opportunities for automation, improved system stability, and performance improvements.
- Lead the implementation of approved solutions, manage capacity, and ensure security policies are met.
- Able to take a "code first" approach to fully automate the deployment and management of cloud infrastructure and environments using Terraform and other tools.
- Influence CDN and Edge Compute roadmaps and support / enforce adherence to technical roadmaps and technical standards through interacting / collaborating with application teams / product owners.
- Drive business value through innovation and architect new CDN and Edge Compute solutions.
- Interact with development teams to assist with onboarding to the platform and utilizing ecosystem development tools.
- Advanced ability to troubleshoot an application load balancer following OSI Layer principles.
- Support development pipelines using tools like Tekton, Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab, and Sonatype Nexus.
- Perform general technical troubleshooting and consult with development teams.
- Utilize correlated data sources to ensure maximum operational uptime and adherence to SLOs and SLAs.
- Partner with cross-organizational teams to plan and implement applications that support business requirements.
- Produce and maintain system configuration documents and standards.
- Serve as a mentor and provide guidance to less experienced IT associates.
- Research new technologies / propose cost-effective solutions, provide innovation within area of expertise, and facilitate team discussions / meetings.
- Recognized as expert in assigned discipline at Garmin and applies extensive technical expertise / analysis to initiatives, contributes input to broader technology solutions outside of discipline, and serves as a leader of change.
- Responsible for providing 24 / 7 on-call coverage on a rotating basis.
