Description:
The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center in Topeka, Kansas is looking for a friendly and organized multi-tasker to join our museum team. The Guest Services Attendant is responsible for supporting an environment that inspires discovery and joy for the thousands of children and former children who visit the museum from all over the world. The Guest Services Attendant is responsible for ensuring that every guest, volunteer and visitor feels welcome when visiting the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center.
Responsibilities:
- Warmly welcome members and guests into the Discovery Center;
- Responsibly address and resolve guest inquiries and concerns with a courteous and diplomatic approach, ensuring positive experiences and satisfaction;
- Assist in providing guest service on the gallery floor as needed;
- Assist in maintaining records and adhere to appropriate records retention requirements;
- Assist with the cleaning procedures of exhibit supplies and facility;
- Answer telephones and respond to general email requests, providing information and redirecting as appropriate;
- Follow all procedures for the museum appropriately, including but not limited to the opening and closing procedures;
- Reliable, flexible, and able to work cooperatively with other staff members;
- Take instruction from supervisor to perform functions as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the museum;
- Available to work Tuesday - Thursday, 8:30am to 5:30pm;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Proven customer service and administrative skills;
- Technologically skilled in Google Workspace and basic familiarity with or willingness to learn customer retention software and point of sale software;
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload;
- Comfortable working with young children and their adults;
- Ability to appropriately communicate with diverse guests of all backgrounds and abilities;
- Excellent verbal communication skills;
- Friendly, outgoing professional demeanor combined with ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age;
- Cash handling experience;
- Commitment to the mission and vision of KCDC.
Preferred Skills:
- Bilingual;
- Proven experience in and passion for guest experience and operations;
Position Conditions:
- Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen;
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs;
- Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time indoors and rarely outdoors;
- Repetitive climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching;
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-traffic, public environment;
- Noise level is moderate to high.
