What are the responsibilities and job description for the LPN/RN Day Shift position at Kansas Christian Home?
Position Summary
Shift: Wednesday and others as needed
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility. The goal is to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times and as directed by the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Manager.
Essential Functions
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern long-term care facilities.
- Ensure that all nursing personnel comply with the written policies and procedures established by the facility.
- Periodically review the department’s policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions; make recommendations for revisions.
- Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan the shift’s services, programs, and activities.
- Ensure that the Nursing Service Procedures Manual is current and accurately reflects the day-to-day nursing procedures performed in the facility.
- Monitor and ensure that nursing personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of the shift as required.
- Cooperate with other resident services to coordinate nursing services and ensure that the resident’s total regimen of care is maintained.
- Ensure that all nursing personnel adhere to their respective job descriptions.
- Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing services department.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) conducted by authorized government agencies as requested.
- Periodically review and participate in updating the resident’s written discharge plan as required.
- Assist in planning the nursing services portion of the resident’s discharge plan.
- Interpret department policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitors, and government agencies when necessary.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Complete accident/incident reports when necessary.
- Prepare resident charge slips and forward them to the Business Office.
- Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit it to the Business Office as required.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.

Qualifications
- Valid LPN or RN license
- Proficient in catheterization and tube feeding
- Strong knowledge of patient care and physiology
- Experience with EHR systems and HIPAA compliance
- Basic life support certification
- Familiarity with critical care and long-term care settings
- Ability to perform patient assessments and triage effectively
- Experience with IV infusion and working with diverse patient populations
