Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to reliable production and distribution of water by designing, implementing and documenting effective control application modifications, database management, Wonderware (HMI) display screen changes, network communications, application interfaces and report building relative to current and future plant and distribution system operations. *
- Contribute to reliable operation of laboratory services by supporting, implementing, and managing WIMS application, application database management, network communication, application interfaces, report building relative to current and future lab operations. *
- Assist department with current and future plans for process modifications with regard to application controls, laboratory services, computing systems and report generation. *
- Contributes to present and future efficient operation of the department by analyzing and recommending computer system needs. Coordinate such efforts and budget with other departments. *
- Assist with preparation of department capital and operations and maintenance budget by identifying motor control centers, variable frequency drives, 15kV switchgear including power meters and Schweitzer relay equipment, materials and labor costs, along with a schedule for completion of development and implementation. *
- Interface with vendors to prepare and review materials and equipment purchase specifications. *
- Design, troubleshoot, and consult on SCADA and Operational Technology networks including PLCs, servers/workstation, network switches and firewalls. *
- Interface with plant technicians and troubleshoot complex industrial electrical systems. *
- Develop, update and maintain plant control system records, wiring and electrical drawings for in house projects in proposed or as-built state by providing timely updated mark-ups and coordinating drawing revisions; and by updating in plant computer-based files and coordinating with water engineering department. *
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations by communicating with the Environmental Service Department and taking corrective action as necessary. Supervises employee waste handling procedures for domestic, special, hazardous and other waste necessary.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Water Processing. *
- Denotes essential functions of the positions.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineer, or a related discipline from an accredited university or college.
- A minimum of six (6) years of experience in programming, configuration troubleshooting, controls development, report development and analysis, water/wastewater industry experience is required.
- Five (5) years of experience with Human Interface Systems (HMI) applications is preferred. Wonderware (HMI) experience required.
- Experience in industrial electrical systems including 480 V, 5 kV, 15 kV is required.
- Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain PE licenses within 2 years. State of Kansas preferred.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess State of Kansas Class IV Water Operator Certification or obtain the certification within three (3) years of position appointment. Once qualified on plant operation, incumbent will be required to work weekend supervisor rotation.
- Knowledge of computer networks, cyber security, databases, water process functionality and quality assurance procedures are required.
- Troubleshooting and configuration experience specific with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Human Machine Interface (HMI’s) including database management and reporting is required.
- Knowledge of programming and configuration with Rockwell PLC’s is required.
- Ability to read and understand process flow charts, engineering drawings and schematic diagrams is required.
- Experience with AutoCAD and ability to update engineering drawings is preferred.
- Displays strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to be on call during nonbusiness hours to meet the needs of the position.
