What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Marketing & Communications position at Kansas City FWC 26?
The Director of Marketing & Communications will be responsible for planning, development, and implementation of the KC2026 marketing strategies, marketing communications, and community engagement activities.
Essential Functions & Competencies
- Create comprehensive marketing strategies to promote the FIFA World Cup 26™ in Kansas City, considering target audiences, market trends, and organizational goals.
- Oversee the execution of integrated marketing campaigns across various channels, including digital, social media, traditional media, and partnerships.
- Develop, maintain, and distribute brand guidelines, ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity across all marketing materials.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
- Lead the development of engaging and shareable content that highlights the unique aspects and stories behind KC2026 and FIFA World Cup 26™.
- Work closely with the Revenue Team to ensure effective activation of partnerships through marketing and communication initiatives.
- Work closely with the Community Engagement team to create, deploy and manage a comprehensive communication strategy to support that planning vertical.
- Maximize exposure for sponsors and partners before, during, and after events.
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans to address unforeseen challenges or issues during events.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to manage and mitigate potential reputational risks.
- Assist with evaluating potential need to onboard external agencies to support KC2026.
- Manage RFP process to identify and partner with external agencies.
- Maintain close communication with FIFA marketing and communications leads.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of communications and/or brand marketing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
- Experienced in understanding how to build content, follower growth and engagement.
- A strong communicator, excellent written, presentation, oral communications, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with communications software and systems and knowledge of best practices for writing and publishing on different platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and proven project management skills.
- Proven experience in marketing and communications roles, preferably in the sports or entertainment industry.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
- Experience with crisis communications and issues management.
- Proficient in using digital marketing tools and analytics platforms.
KC2026 is the 501(c)(4) non-profit entity that has been incorporated to lead the strategy for the planning and activation of the FIFA World Cup 26™ in Kansas City. KC2026 is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of elected/appointed officials, representatives from the local professional sports teams and key community leaders. The purpose of the entity is to maximize the positive momentum created by FIFA World Cup 26™ to unite, strengthen and elevate our region while propelling Kansas City to new heights in the nation and the world.
