Description
Supervised by the Customer Services Manager; provides high quality library services to the public; makes appropriate referrals, provides basic technical support for patrons using Library-provided technology and equipment. Assists with the coordination and organization of programming to a targeted population. Assists with Collection Maintenance.
This is a full-time non exempt position with an hourly pay of $17.77, plus excellent benefits . Position is open until filled.
Schedule
Monday - Wednesday: 8:30 am - 5 pm
Thursday: 12:30 pm - 9 pm
Friday: 8:30 am - 5 pm
Note: The schedule is non negotiable.

Job Duties (Essential Functions)
- Provides basic circulation and registration services to assure patrons ready access to library materials: Checks materials in and out; issues library cards; collects fines and charges; updates customer records in the computer; verbally explains circulation policies and procedures; makes other computer inquiries; and processes patron requests for reserve items.
- Maintains effective courteous working relationships with all library patrons and staff.
- Assists patrons with use of library databases, computer equipment, and software.
- Courteously answers telephone by identifying self and location, and if unable to assist with the request, directs call to the appropriate staff person.
- Lifts, routes and shelves materials, which may weigh up to 35 pounds, from book bins and shelves.
- Processes patrons' request material; prepares and sends Interlibrary Loan requests.
- Performs other related work and as assigned, such as Kid’s café, teen lock-ins, notary services, supporting programs or activities developed and promoted by other Library colleagues. Initiates with support and direction from Branch Managers a few activities such as book groups, movie nights, skills training.

- Uses decision making skills to reflect values-based principles
- Must be able to access materials from shelves which may be over head or those which may be below waist level. Must be able to work at a counter used for customer interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to organize daily work routines for location effectively.
- Many duties performed while standing and bending; ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills with a willingness to learn and keep current with emerging technologies
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Three or more years of Library or community customer service experience.
- Ability to speak and understand English is required, additional consideration will be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages spoken in Jackson County, MO including Spanish, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
Work Environment
Work is performed at the Plaza Library Branch. Workspace is shared with co-workers and patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
