PURPOSE OF JOB
Teach content subject aligned to state and national standards outlined by KCPS' guaranteed and viable curriculum. Proactively seeks to identify and screen possible English Learners, and collaborates with all staff members to ensure English Language
Development instruction and support is provided within all subject area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitates learning and instruction by using multiple presentation methods: demonstrating, modeling, visual representations, and strategies that aid in supplementing and engaging students content.
- Collaborates with teachers and staff to adapt and scaffold materials, assignments and assessments to improve second language acquisition using ELD, KCPS', and state standards.
- Administers tests to evaluate the progress, results, and issues reports to inform all stakeholders of student progress.
- Keep and Maintain in SIS: grades, progress, attendance, lesson plans, student records, discipline information, parent contact log, as needed or required.
- Maintains a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Ensures communication and translation/interpretation for stakeholders (parents/guardians) in their native language when possible.
- Participates in multiple meeting types: faculty, professional meetings, educational conferences, professional development and workshops.
- Create and maintain daily schedules to meet the needs of EL students and support in the creation of the ESOL Instructional Paraprofessionals to ensure coverage.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Education from four-year college or university
- Valid Missouri State Certification in grade level or content area assigned Valid Missouri State Certification in ESL (K-12) or willing to obtain ESL Endorsement
SUCCESS FACTORS
- Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching English language learners. Teaching experience in urban schools.
