The Trauma Sensitive Schools Clinician (TSSC) provides an advanced level of clinical knowledge and leadership to the multi-disciplinary student intervention services team and will work with other intra-district teams to promote the district-wide integration of Trauma-Sensitive Schools (TSS).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote positive school culture and improve student socio-emotional wellness and academic achievement by leading consultations with building leaders, teachers, classroom instructors, and other staff as appropriate through staff in-services and other related communications.
  • Collaborate with the intra-district offices and DSS Leadership to develop system-wide strategies for Trauma Sensitive School implementations. Analyze data reports generated weekly, monthly, as needed by student data management systems in order to determine project status and areas of opportunity for improved communication/strategies, and treatment/intervention.
  • Review and critique relevant district and office policy for its clinical compatibility and operational effectiveness, and draft recommended policy changes as appropriate.
  • Provide brief trauma-informed and solution-focused clinical interventions, crisis response support, conflict mediations, assessments, brokerage services, and other social emotional support to students and families.
  • Develop a network of trauma-informed student and family support services, including: community non-profits, tutoring programs, recreational and cultural activities, WIC, Medicaid, housing assistance, emergency assistance and other community or government sponsored human services agencies.
  • Coaches families and school personnel with developing student success plans that outline specific goals promoting student wellness, positive development, school connectedness, and achievement. May lead student groups.
  • Coordinate school-community linkages to care for students and families based on appropriate assessments while prioritizing connection to trauma-informed partner agencies.
  • Establish healthy partnerships with parent(s) that focus on: increasing the parents' understanding of their student's challenges; encouraging parents' constructive participation in resolving their student's challenges; and building parents' awareness and capacity to successfully engage and use appropriate resources available. May include home visits.
  • Organize and maintain accurate, complete, and confidential case management records (paper and electronic), including: student progress notes, contact logs, referrals, follow-up documents, reports, assessments, etc.
  • Secure funding for school based programming and initiatives including but not limited to grant writing.
  • Other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : No

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or closely related degree
  • Missouri professional license as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or as a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC)
  • Three (3) years of direct working experience with socio-economically challenged youth in a culturally and ethnically diverse urban setting.
  • Three (3) years of experience with case management
  • Three (3) years of experience in individual and small group clinical intervention
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the theory and practice of mental health assessment and treatment Previous experience working with school systems and local, state or federal agencies
  • Knowledge and experience of providing trauma-sensitive service and an understanding of how trauma impacts the students and other systems.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing detailed written and oral reports, including the development and facilitation of training.
  • Ability to perform basic statistical analysis is a requirement, along with problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must have current driver's license and eligibility for insurance through KCMSD insurance provider.
  • Must have the ability to conduct assessments and write reports.
  • Office skills including typing (keyboarding), and computer skills with the ability to use Excel, Word, Access, MS Outlook, and other operating systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Missouri professional license as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Licensed Professional Counselor
  • Bilingual written and verbal skills.
