Job Description:
The Billing and Collection Specialist combines expertise in dental billing and collections along with exceptional front desk skills, ensuring the smooth operation of our dental clinic.- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist patients warmly, ensuring a positive experience
- Answer phone calls, address inquiries, and provide information about dental services
- Collect patient payments, issue receipts, and maintain accurate financial records
- Update and maintain patient records in the practice management software
- Verify insurance eligibility, coverage and benefits for patients
- Accurately prepare and submit dental claims with supporting documents in a timely manner
- Make sure correct dental codes are linked to the procedure
- Watch for and fix any possible errors on the claim before it is filed
- Follow up on unpaid claims and ensure timely collection of payments from insurance companies and patients
- Assist in updating insurance carrier’s allowable and rules as they change
- Work with payers to resolve claim issues
- Review claims rejection reports and correcting any issues
- Researching outstanding claims > 30 days in a timely manner
- Work with responsible parties to reconcile past due accounts
- Assist patients with payment plans and payment arrangements
- Assist with special projects and other assignments delegated by Director of Finance
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of dental insurance, CDT code, and HIPAA compliance
- Courteous and able to exercise diplomacy when working with patients and coworkers
- Proficient with current office technology and willingness to learn new applications and systems
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three to five years of experience in patient services
