Job Description:
The Kansas City University (KCU) Center for Population Health and Equity (CPHE) is seeking applicants for a full-time Epidemiologist, to be located at KCU’s Joplin campus. This staff position will work within the new CPHE Research Lab to support student, faculty, staff and community research efforts from conception to dissemination, with an emphasis on scholarly activities in the fields of population health, public health, health equity, and health policy. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong study design and data analysis/interpretation skills, a passion for advancing the population health knowledge base, and an interest in working collaboratively with graduate health students and other experts to answer scientific questions. The start date for this position will be March-June 2025. Spring 2025 graduates are encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Consult and collaborate with graduate health students (medical, dental, clinical psychology), biostatistician, and KCU faculty in executing scholarly work, including protocol development, study design, data analysis, and dissemination of results
- Independently perform statistical analyses of health data, including interpretation and reporting of results
- Leverage existing data to develop reports on population health status measures
- Collaborate to prepare abstracts, posters, scientific articles, to make presentations for professional groups
- Produce data visualizations to communicate findings to external audiences
- Maintain accurate and organized work records
- Aid in submission of grant applications, requests for proposals, and other evidence-based practices geared towards programmatic fiscal sustainability
- Contribute to the development of CPHE strategies and goals, ensuring that programs align with KCU’s mission and vision
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization
Other and Supportive Functions:
- Maintain professional relationships with public health, community health, educational and private health care organizations and supporting partners
- Other administrative tasks (i.e., filing, preparing documentation)
- Participate in developing CPHE goals, objectives and systems
- Active participation in team and University meetings
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited program in epidemiology or other closely related field is required
- Thorough knowledge of public health principles and practices, epidemiology, study design, data analysis, and an understanding of the use of health data
- Ability to clearly communicate the findings of epidemiologic studies
- Experience in the use of statistical software for data analysis (SAS, SPSS, STATA, R, etc.)
- Knowledge of available public health-related databases (experience in using these data sources preferred)
- Ability to self-start projects and work independently with minimal guidance
- Excellent communication and attention to detail
- Strong working knowledge of spreadsheet platforms (i.e. Excel, Sheets, etc.).
- Experience with REDCap preferred
- Training or knowledge in working with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) preferred
- Population health and/or public health experience preferred
- Effective at managing multiple projects across multiple clients and stakeholders
- Demonstrated sensitivity to a wide range of disciplines, interests, and constituencies represented at KCU and a deep commitment to population health and equity as part of its public mission
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to work effectively and harmoniously with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Sensitivity in working with an ethnically, socio-economically, and socially diverse workforce
