KDHE is comprised of three divisions: Public Health, Environment, and Health Care Finance (which includes the State’s Medicaid program, KanCare). Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The position (K0240449)
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has a Program Assistant opening in our Topeka office. This department adjudicates disability cases for persons applying for KanCare benefits. Medical background is preferred: Medical records, terminology, or medical office experience or course work. Organization and time management skills are key. Attention to detail and accuracy are critical. Develop and maintain cases for applicants requesting medical benefits.Using independent judgement, request medical evidence from multiple sources and providing secondary development as needed.Perform timely follow-ups and prepare cases for adjudication within the 90-day program requirement.Review records for completeness and obtain missing documentation for the applicant or referring agency.Data entry.Advise suspension of inactive cases.Document case decision in the PMDT and KEES database.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Monitor workflow queues and process medical and vocational documents received through fax and email.Review case statuses weekly for changes to Social Security claim adjudication.Prepare confidential correspondence with applicant and referring agencies.Daily contact with medical providers, facilitators, or social workers to obtain records.Route cases with 100% accuracy.Document case actions in the PMDT database.Use scanner/printer to add documents to electronic file. Extract invoices from records and prepare for payment processing. Maintain spreadsheets, form letters, and database tables.
Perform written communications and maintenance of electronic and paper files in current case management system.Process documents received via mail using scanner or photocopier.Facilitate the process of scheduling exams and obtaining exam reports from contracted exam providers.

Qualifications
- Education:
- High School/GED
- Licensing & Certification:
- Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience interacting with the public in a problem resolution setting. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Some post-high school education
- Proofreading, editing, attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication
- 1 year experience in case management; including research and compiling information
- Worked with HIPAA rules and guidelines
- 1 year experience in a medical office and/or medical records
