Position Summary & Responsibilities: Special Investigator | Law Enforcement Officer
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team in Topeka. This role involves conducting thorough investigations into fraudulent overpayment cases, gathering evidence, and working collaboratively with internal and external agencies to ensure the enforcement of state and federal laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate fraudulent overpayment cases by reviewing documents and determining prosecutability.
- Develop case files with a chronological timeline of the investigation.
- Conduct interviews with claimants, issue subpoenas, and prepare charging affidavits.
- Collaborate with prosecutors to present cases for review and potential filing of charges.
- Adhere to timelines and priorities while managing a high volume of investigations.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders, including tax auditors and call center staff, as well as federal, state, and local agencies.
- Ensure safety and security in office and field settings.
- Maintain law enforcement certification by attending 40 hours of continuing education, including firearms qualification.
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Kansas driver's license
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Kansas Law Enforcement Certification (at time of application)
- Minimum 6 months experience in investigations, completing reports and documents, gathering facts, understanding and applying policies, laws, regulations.
Post-Offer, Pre-Employment Requirements:

- State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate. The successful applicant (even non-residents) must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website within 10 days of the date the applicant has been offered the employment position. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days.
