What are the responsibilities and job description for the Subgrants Coordinator - Historic Preservation Specialist II position at Kansas Historical Society?
Position administers and monitors awards through the state and other subgrant programs as may be required, to organizations and individuals for compliance with the funds’ objectives and with historic preservation guidelines. Develops and implements program procedures, criteria, and evaluation standards for the grant programs. Solicits applications, organizes publicity, and writes and revises all forms, instructions, and manuals. Advises and consults with entities applying for funds. Helps plan the state preservation conference in coordination with the local host communities.
Responsibilities
Administering and monitoring grant-funded projects for compliance with state and federal funding requirements. Reviewing project plans for conformance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Scheduling and conducting on-site visits to historic properties to advise property owners on appropriate preservation techniques. Developing and implementing procedures, criteria, and evaluation standards for the program. Creating applications, promoting the program to the public, and conducting in-person and online workshops. Facilitating timely and accurate reimbursement of grantee expenses and reporting periodically on the status of the program. Maintaining organized files and spreadsheets containing project information.
Duties will also include occasional review of federal and state tax credit applications and additional technical assistance to property owners and fellow staff. Other duties may be assigned by supervisors such as serving on staff committees and review teams, including review teams for National Register nominations and in-house survey projects. Helps plan the state preservation conference in coordination with the local host communities.
Qualifications
The employee must be able to read, understand, and explain drawings and specifications for projects submitted for review. The employee must possess skills necessary to provide excellent customer service. Must be able to inspect historic buildings from roof to basement or crawl spaces via ladders, stairs, scaffolding and other means before, during, and after construction. Must have a sound understanding of construction techniques and historic preservation practices. Must be willing to travel extensively during parts of the year. The successful applicant will meet the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards in the area of Architectural History, or Historic Architecture.
