Job Duties: This is professional work developing and maintaining cybersecurity plans, strategy and policy to support and align with organizational cybersecurity initiatives and regulatory compliance. 
Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer and is reviewed by conferences and evaluation of results obtained. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the Chief Information Security Officer.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Analyze organizational cyber policy.
  • Interpret and apply applicable laws, statutes, and regulatory documents and integrate into policy.
  • Develop policy, programs, and guidelines for implementation.
  • Establish and maintain communication channels with stakeholders.
  • Review existing and proposed policies with stakeholders.
  • Seek consensus on proposed policy changes from stakeholders.
  • Assess policy needs and collaborate with stakeholders to develop policies to govern cyber activities.
  • In collaboration with the CISO, review and refine vendor cybersecurity requirements for information systems and services contracts.
  • Review and recommend vendor cybersecurity requirements that are appropriate for each engagement.
  • Serve on agency and interagency policy boards.
  • Promote awareness of cyber policy and strategy as appropriate.
  • Monitor the rigorous application of cyber policies, principles, and practices.
  • Provide policy guidance to cyber management, staff, and users.
  • Review, conduct, or participate in audits of cyber programs and projects.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or business information systems, or related field, plus four or more years of experience performing duties like those described above. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis for the formal education requirements.

Strongly desired: 5 or more years of increasing responsibility in strategic planning to navigate emerging technologies that have potential for exploitation.

  • Ability to determine the validity of technology trend data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Customer service attitude and focus.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and quickly adjust in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Mature analytic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, project teams, and management. 
  • The ability to leverage the best practices and lessons learned of external organizations and academic institutions dealing with cyber issues.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, statutes and/or administrative/criminal legal guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to develop policy, plans, and strategy in compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and standards in support of organizational cyber activities.
  • Knowledge of strategic theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies that have potential for exploitation.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging cyber technologies.
