The position serves as the executive administrative assistant to the Reporter of Decisions. Assists Reporter of Decisions in providing complex legal editing of opinions for the Kansas Judicial Branch.
Prepares opinions for publication in the Kansas Reports and the Kansas Court of Appeals Reports. Edits and proofreads publications; prepares opinions of both courts for eFiling, published and unpublished opinions.

- Reviews and provides suggestions on rules of syntax, grammar, punctuation, diction, rhetoric, semantics, style, legal content, and citation of authority. Oversees work to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Performs legal research to keep abreast of the law and related trends to edit opinions correctly, including Westlaw to update citations.
- Performs a variety of independent research and report preparation including forms for bound volumes.
- Makes administrative decisions within designated areas.
- E-files Supreme Court and Court of Appeals opinions with Appellate Clerk's Office.
- Uses Access database to produce reports.
- Proofreads all publications from State Printer.
- Initiates advance sheets, publication, and bound volume publications by preparing front ends for judicial opinions for online publications.
- Prepares judicial opinions for print publications in Kansas Reports and Court of Appeals.
- Communicates effectively in writing.
- Communicates effectively in verbal form.
- Appropriately shares information internally and externally.
- Communicates with State printer's office regularly and answers questions.
- Works with the public in routine and difficult situations.
- Serves as an information resource to the public and staff.
- Provides courteous service to coworkers and the public.
- Handles requests for information in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinates office management efforts with the chain of command.
- Maintains the database of all opinions from both courts.
- Attends meetings and training as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience : Graduation from an accredited university or college. Substitution of educational experience can be waived with five or more years of experience in editing legal documents, including expert knowledge of compliance with grammar and usage, required. Experience with editing under time pressure with deadlines.
