Essential Responsibilities/Tasks: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
1. Proactively participates as a team member in support of the total endoscopy process
2. Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
3. Supervises and directs patient care in the endoscopy room
4. Verifies patient procedure prior to transport to procedure room
5. Participates in time out in procedure room
6. Uses safe surgery check list
7. Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively
8. Delegates activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members
9. Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover time
10. Assists with supplies, drugs, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability
11. Addresses patient needs specific to the endoscopy procedure
12. Transports patients to the endoscopy room, as needed, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements
13. Using two patient identifiers, identifies the patient and correct procedure, according to policy and procedures and communicates with the healthcare team
14. Reviews patient's medical record and needs to provide continuity of care, collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team; communicates variances appropriately to other healthcare team members
15. Provides comfort and reassurance to patient
16. Maintains patient's privacy and dignity
17. Explains procedure(s) and plan of care to the patient
18. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the procedure room according to requirements of patient, physician, and procedure to includes, but not be limited to assembling and providing properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments
19. Works collaboratively with the surgical/procedure team to verify high level disinfection and/or
sterility of instruments and supplies according to policy and procedure
20. Assists with the appropriate and safe positioning of the patient according to patient needs and planned procedure; monitors throughout procedure
21. Administers medication(s), per order of physician
22. Handles tissue specimens correctly and accurately according to policy and procedures
23. Logs specimens
24. Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate logistics and timely documentation per policy and procedure
25. Accurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction, following policy and procedures
26. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of patient care
27. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Education: 18 years of age with a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), Registered Nurse certification
Experience: Minimum two-three years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a registered nurse. Must have exceptional organizational skills.
Other Requirements: Current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).

Equipment Operated: Standard medical exam/office equipment, which may include computerized health information management system for medical records, etc.
Work Environment: Work performed in an surgery center setting with exposure to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens. Interaction with patients, staff, physicians, pharmacists and other medical facilities.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Frequent walking, sitting, squatting and occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds. Working at a video display terminal for extended periods. Functioning in high stress situations.
