Position Overview
As a Retail Manager at Kanuga Inn & Lodging, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all retail outlets and operations within the premises, ensuring consistency, accuracy and streamlined processes. This pivotal role will encompass the planning, coordination, and execution of retail strategies to enhance the guest experience and drive revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management:
- Conduct and oversee inventory counts for all locations (CK Outfitters, The Bears Den, and the Conference Center gift shop).
- Maintain and update inventory systems, including YellowDog and Square; ensuring accurate tracking of stock levels, damage, and losses.
- Organize and standardize inventory storage across locations (e.g., labeling, bin organization).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all vendor relationships, managing accounts, negotiating terms, and handling approvals for quotes and purchases.
- Resolve invoice disputes and escalate persistent issues, minimizing financial discrepancies.
- Monitor and place approved orders, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for ordering, receiving, stocking, and tracking merchandise.
- Manage physical logistics, such as transferring inventory between locations.
- Ensure retail outlets are appropriately staffed, trained, and maintained. Escalate concerns to the Camp Director and Administrator to resolve issues.
- Offer genuine customer service to our guests as an extension of the outstanding hospitality and sales for which Kanuga is proud of being recognized as an industry leader.
- Follow inventory control protocols and implement best practices of seasonal stock rotation
- Maintain appropriate and inviting displays of merchandise and improve efficiency of shop layouts to maximize sales per square foot.
- Receive merchandise immediately upon delivery ensuring orders are correct, correcting any vendor discrepancies immediately.
- Demonstrate patience, tact and a welcoming attitude with guests, even in difficult situations, in person as well via telephone or email.
- Participate in training seasonal staff (e.g., Brand Managers), ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Provide onboarding for seasonal staff on inventory processes and systems like Yellowdog and Square.
- Oversee cash drawer reconciliation and ensure compliance with financial protocols.
- Collaborate with the Accounting team on coding invoices and managing refunds or adjustments.
- Proven experience in retail management, preferably in a hotel or resort environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact effectively with guests, staff, and vendors.
- Proficiency in inventory management, sales analysis, and retail marketing strategies.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to achieving business objectives.
