Director of Engineering & Project Management

Job Summary:

This position will oversee and coordinate all operational aspects of the facility to ensure property maintenance is in compliance with exceptional guest experiences and efficient business operations are in place. This role is responsible for supporting the operational plans and procedures to ensure the highest standards of property upkeep, safety, efficiency, sustainability, cost effectiveness, and guest satisfaction are met. This will involve collaborating with various departments on a maintenance level to develop and implement best practices, drive new policies, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain regulatory compliance. This role will also include full project management of all future capital improvements to include but not limited to evaluation of all assets ,collaborative short term and long term planning, contactor/vendor vetting, contract and proposal review, communication and scheduling with all external and internal parties, ensuring timelines are met, quality assurance. Substantial planning has been completed and more is underway. Anticipated investment in capital improvements to be $8-10 million over the next five years.

Key Responsibilities:

Capital Planning and Project Management

  • Update and validate recent property audit to determine, condition, age, life expectancy, liability, priority, replacement cost, etc. as well as determine whether best to utilize company personnel or outsource to contractors or subcontractors
  • Schedule and manage internal capital renovation, replacement, and development projects with ownership, property executive team members, selected management company leaders
  • Lead and communicate to senior leaders the researching, solicitation and vetting of all outside contactors, vendors, partners for outsourced capital, renovation, replacement and development projects. Evaluating, summarizing and communicating recommendations of all contacts, proposals, bids, etc. to senior leadership.
  • Daily oversight of capital project schedules, critical path, etc. and holding all contactors, vendors and partners accountable on meeting deadlines, work quality, expectations, warranties, etc.

Accountability:

  • Ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization’s policies and objectives.
  • Monitor the performance of engineering teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.

Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams, providing direction, motivation, and support to ensure project goals are met.
  • Allocate resources effectively, including the assignment of tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, identify skills gaps, and implement training programs to enhance team capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the engineering team.

Team Building:

  • Build a cohesive and high-performing engineering team through effective recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies.
  • Encourage collaboration and communication among team members to promote a positive and productive work environment.
  • Resolve conflicts within the team efficiently and constructively to maintain a harmonious working environment.

Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Collaborate with senior management to define engineering strategies and goals aligned with the company’s vision.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of long-term engineering projects and initiatives.
  • Evaluate technological advancements and integrate them into the company’s engineering practices to enhance productivity and innovation.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects.
  • Implement robust health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to protect team members and minimize risks

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience of progressive leadership in facility operations and maintenance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • A Minimum of 5 years in project management for large scale interior and exterior renovations, restorations and new construction with a focus on hotel/ resorts.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement operational strategies with a strong financial acumen and proven ability to drive results.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Proven track record of managing capital expenditure projects, including budgeting and execution.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with a customer-centric mindset.
  • Proficiency in property management systems, management tools and software programs.
  • Ability to thrive and provide sustainability in a dynamic environment and lead by example with integrity, resilience, and professionalism.
