The Opportunity
The Kapor Center is looking for an experienced CFO with a passion for the Kapor Center's mission to provide strategic fiduciary oversight and ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations for the Kapor Enterprises (the family office) and the Kapor Foundation.
For mission-driven CFOs, this is a unique opportunity : Kapor Enterprises has begun the transfer of the personal assets (including direct tech startup investments, venture fund investments, and real estate holdings) to the Kapor Foundation; over the coming years, all assets will transfer, and you will lead the effort to ensure this happens in a smooth and effective manner.
The CFO will be a trusted advisor for our Principals, the Kapor Foundation CEO, and other stakeholders, supporting strategic long-term financial decision-making and day-to-day activities. Leading a small team, the CFO is responsible for financial planning and analysis, cash management, accounting, tax planning, and risk management.
The ideal candidate has a 10 year track record of success in leading a complex financial operation, effectively leveraging technology to drive efficient financial processes, and experience in a family office / private foundation setting. Experience with venture and direct investment accounting is a strong plus. Successful candidates are personally and professionally aligned with the Kapor Center's unique, values-driven culture, which is highly attuned to social justice and presumes that fairness is central to any definition of corporate success.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Finance & Accounting
- Lead the creation, maintenance, and delivery of timely, accurate, and useful financial reporting for all stakeholders, with a focus on customer service, clear communication, and efficiency
- Manage an efficient and effective annual budget development process to ensure alignment of resources with strategic priorities
- Assess, recommend, implement, and oversee all financial and accounting technology, tools, and processes; partner with CIO on investment technology, tools, and processes
- Lead operational and investment liquidity planning and cash management through the creation and maintenance of both short- and long-term cash forecasting
- Manage timely and accurate filing of all tax returns
- Review all month-end closing activities, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and cost allocations
- Manage, maintain, and drive adoption of all organizational accounting, budgeting and forecasting policies and procedures
- Oversee the transfer of assets from the family office to the Kapor Foundation

LOCATION
We are flexible on location for the right candidate, with a preference for the Bay Area, California. The Kapor Center office is located in the uptown district of Oakland, with excellent access to public transportation.

The pay range for this role is :
350,000 - 425,000 USD per year (California)
