What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Planner position at Kar Nut Products Co?
We are on a mission to grow Second Nature Brands 4x from $250MM to $1 B in the next 4 years through a combination of organic growth (increased distribution, e-commerce, and innovation) and through M&A. We have an opening for a Maintenance Planner/Scheduler, who will be an important member of the supply chain team during this growth.
Second Nature Brands Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is responsible for the effective planning/scheduling of all maintenance work orders processes (MEX). Maintenance Planner/ Schedular reports to the Maintenance Manager to achieve efficient and effective planning/scheduling and, resources to conduct maintenance activities which result in minimum downtime and maximum productivity.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Prioritize, plan, schedule and follow – up on all open, closed and in process planned work.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all equipment, machinery, and facilities.
- Collaborate with department heads to plan maintenance activities around production schedules and operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external partners to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Review all planned work requests from customers and determines accuracy of information and (work type, priority, asset, parts etc.), collaborate with the appropriate departments.
- Coordinate with maintenance technicians, schedule routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections while ensuring appropriate materials and resources are available.
- Actively participate in scheduling meeting with operation partners to finalize priority of work orders, optimum downtime windows, and necessary lead times.
- Maintain engineering designs and diagrams adjust as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment history, and maintenance schedules etc, provides timely distribution of metrics and reports. (KPI’s).
- Assist Maintenance Manager on work orders and ensures all questions related to the work orders are addressed.
- Review all performed work orders and ensure that all costs, materials, labor, and downtime are correctly allocated to equipment, lines, projects etc.
- Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), Q&FS (Quality & Food Safety), and OSHA Safety policies.
- Provide information on GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), Q&FS (Quality & Food Safety), and OSHA Safety policies to maintenance technicians, contractors, and vendors etc;
- Ensures all work scheduled follows SNB’s internal safety programs/policies with safety information provided.
- Build and maintain a positive relationship with production, maintenance labor, maintenance, and operations management etc.
- Preform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Apprenticeship program or technical school background is desirable with a minimum of 2 years’ experience (preferred).
- General industrial maintenance experience in mechanical and electrical (preferred).
- Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Must be a self-starter, able to handle a busy workload, and be productive working alone.
- Previous automated manufacturing or distribution environment experience(required).
- Must manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
- Must have the ability to communicate the executions of tasks tactfully.
- Knowledge of maintenance best practices, equipment reliability, and preventive maintenance strategies.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in scheduling and record-keeping.
- Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (required).
- Proficient MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint (required).
Physical Requirements
- Can walk up and down stairs frequently.
- Wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by company.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, you will regularly work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can be high and employee may be required to wear personal protective equipment. This is an indoor food manufacturing setting.

We are located at 1200 E. 14 Mile Rd, Madison Heights, MI 48071.
We have a position on morning shift start time flexible Monday through Friday. Qualified candidates must work 8 hours days and able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
The starting pay rate is $31.25 per hour. This is a full-time position that includes a comprehensive benefit package including paid time off, employee discount, medical, dental, disability and life insurance and a 401(k) plan with company match!
