At Karp Strategies, Directors are senior level leaders. Directors lead project strategy and project teams, manage external client engagements and relationships, and are responsible for the financial health of projects in their portfolio , including managing costs, revenues, and profits associated with the P&L. Directors manage and mentor Karp Strategies team members, maintain our team's mission and culture, and collaborate with the CEO and Principals to shape the firm's direction. Directors support business development initiatives internally and externally, and participate in internal initiatives (ex. team training).
The Director role is an exciting opportunity to help us grow in the vision we have created and continue to nurture. We are hiring immediately for a Director who is excited to lead projects across sectors. Your portfolio will change over time, and based on current upcoming work, this Director's service areas will include stakeholder outreach and engagement, strategy and analysis, and strategic planning, across verticals including economic development, infrastructure, resiliency, ports, and public policy. Directors lead projects in close partnership with project Associates (PMs), with support from Principals.
Key Responsibilities
Director responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Project Delivery & Leadership
- Senior team leader managing project delivery, in partnership with project Associate. Oversees entire project lifecycle, from initial scoping to final closeout.
- Proven ability to oversee and collaborate closely with external clients, external collaborators / consultants, and internal project teams to manage projects and deliver tangible results. Experienced in tracking outcome KPIs and maintaining a balance between performing tasks and delegating responsibilities.
- Project leadership with a focus on strategy, timely delivery, and budget adherence. Team leadership and management skills, and proficiency in project management tools.
- Comfort leading project teams in new content areas, while learning by doing. Ability to lead project teams in the production of high-quality deliverables, including memos, reports, presentations, financial analysis, stakeholder facilitation, real estate and economic development analysis and strategy, and client delivery.
- Bring best in class stakeholder outreach and engagement, communications, strategy and analysis, and policy content, methodology, ideas, and client management expertise to project teams to deliver exceptional results for clients in line with firm values. Bring best in class content and experience in economic development, infrastructure, renewable energy, and other key areas for Karp Strategies to inform our work.
- Support the development of standardized internal tools, processes, training, and other resources that can be used to improve project management, client management, and deliverables.
- Serve as senior leader for client relationships.
- Ability to clearly communicate expectations and manage towards outcomes. Able to coach teams through the unexpected on projects.
People Management & Coaching
Directly manage and coach a set of high-performing staff, including Associates and others, with particular attention to the core values of the firm, and skills development. Utilize Karp Strategies systems and tools to support staff management.Serve as a mentor and model of excellence in staff management; promote and model a culture of high performance and continuous learning with a focus on, analysis, a learning orientation, and impact.Coach team towards client-orientation, business leadership, entrepreneurial mindset, and outcomes, with an orientation on personal and professional growth, profitability, and values alignment.Firm & Industry Leadership
Enhance professional and personal development through active participation in relevant industry associations and organizations. Elevate the visibility of Karp Strategies and share best practices through thought leadership, public speaking engagements, active memberships, and participation in industry events, conferences, and marketing opportunities.Partner with the Leadership Team to establish short and long term firm direction, including defining and achieving Objectives and Key Results. Create a shared vision, goals, strategies, and outcomes for company-wide success. Implement selected strategies through project portfolio or internal initiatives. Marry business orientation with a mission-driven perspective to help the firm make strong decisions.Engage in internal activities that enhance the culture and meet the values of the firm, including commitment to fostering a culture of growth.Develop areas of expertise within your practice areas, becoming the Karp Strategies go-to for methodologies and leadershipSupport developing strong relationships across sectors and stakeholders to support Business Development in line with the firm's revenue, profitability, and impact targets. Manage existing client relationships towards retention and upsell opportunities.As needed, support business development efforts such as proposal response strategy.Build visibility for the firm through thought leadership, membership organizations, events and public engagements, marketing opportunities, conferences, and other channels.Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Minimum of ten years of professional experience working within related industries.Possess exceptional critical thinking skills, a deep curiosity about the challenges and opportunities of economic opportunity, quality of life, and the built environment, and a commitment to proactively address and advance equity, justice, and anti-racism.Prior experience in consulting and professional services or highly transferable skills, coupled with demonstrable experience in the Economic Development and Infrastructure sectors and Stakeholder Outreach and Engagement service areas.Demonstrated experience owning budgets and P&Ls at the project and / or department level.Excellent writing and presentation skills, experience leading client relationships, with an eye toward persuasion, advisory, and consensus building. Experience being in a doer-delegator role that can require both rolling up your sleeves to contribute and reviewing the work of others.Ability to manage teams towards outcomes and growth, with a passion for coaching.A strong commitment to valued driven leadership across projects, teams, and relationship development.Deep desire and excitement to be in a small firm environment.Ability to travel in support of project needs up to 20% of the time.Benefits

Compensation : The base salary for this position is $110,000-155,000, with the opportunity for an annual discretionary bonus on both individual and organization performance.
