As an Employee and Labor Relations Specialist, you will play a vital role in fostering positive relationships between the organization and its employees, as well as managing interactions with labor unions where applicable. You will provide guidance and support on various employment-related matters, including employee grievances, disciplinary actions, and labor contract negotiations. Your objective will be to promote a fair and harmonious work environment while ensuring compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations.
D U T I E S AN D R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S
General Duties:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employees seeking assistance with workplace issues, concerns, or grievances.
- May assist in investigations into employee complaints, conflicts, or allegations of misconduct in a fair and objective manner.
- Provide guidance to managers and supervisors on handling employee relations issues, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Mediate conflicts and facilitate resolution between employees or between employees and management.
- Serve as a liaison between the organization and labor unions, if applicable, maintaining open communication and addressing union-related concerns.
- Stay informed about changes in labor laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting labor relations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and labor standards.
- May assist in Investigations related to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other workplace compliance matters.
- Provide coaching and guidance to managers on effective employee relations practices and compliance with relevant policies and procedures and union contract interpretation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of employee relations cases, investigations, and resolutions.

- Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to create and comprehend reports and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and under pressure of deadlines.
- Excellent collaboration, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and handle sensitive employee matters with discretion.
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Works well in group problem solving situations.
- Adapts to changes in the work environment; is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
- Fluency in English, Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
E D U C AT I O N AN D E X P E R I E N C E
- Several years of experience performing labor relations work in a predominately non-exempt union workforce or a combination thereof of interviewing and investigations experience.
- Proven in-depth knowledge of employment laws, regulations and labor standards.
- Experience as stated above with emphasis in labor relations, collective bargaining, dispute resolution, and compliance in a healthcare environment. Knowledge of Joint Commission Principles, Title 22 and California employment laws.
