Job description
As a Summer Camp Staff, you will be responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for campers ages 5 to 12 years old during the summer season. You will facilitate various camp activities, mentor campers, and ensure their well-being while fostering a sense of community and fun.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and engage campers in a variety of activities such as outdoor games, arts and crafts, culinary arts, sports, nature exploration, and team-building exercises.
- Create and implement age-appropriate programs that encourage personal growth, creativity, and teamwork.
- Assist with off-site field trips (including pools and water parks) to include active participation in the trips and activities as well as transportation to and from off-site locations.
- Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere by promoting respect, cooperation, and inclusivity among campers.
- Ensure the safety of campers by following established protocols, including monitoring activities, enforcing rules, and addressing any safety concerns promptly.
- Act as a mentor and role model, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to campers.
- Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to plan and execute daily schedules, special events, and field trips.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, camper evaluations, and inventory management as needed.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents/guardians, and staff members regarding camper progress, concerns, and upcoming activities.
- Follow company policies regarding child attendance, discipline of children, and compliance will all VA state licensing regulations.
- Recognize, document, and take appropriate action in cases of suspected abuse, illness or accidents.
Additional Requirements:
- Availability during the camp's operational hours, 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (typically weekdays during summer months).
- Willingness to participate in pre-camp training sessions.
- Willingness to complete all required training, orientation, and background checks prior to start date.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting is preferred;
- Comfortable with team-based work structure;
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job;
- Strong written and verbal skills;
- Initiative, conscientiousness, and comprehensive follow-through in areas of responsibility;
- Ability to consistently model superior teaching and caregiving skills;
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Clean MVR
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification prior to employment);
- Pass required background checks and screenings.
