JOB TITLE: Federal Programs, Curriculum, and SALARY: DOE
Instruction Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Superintendent HRS: 8
LOCATION: Kashunamiut School District No. DAYS: 210
JOB PURPOSE: To oversee the implementation of Curriculum, Instruction, and Federal Programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum and Instruction may include:
1. Must possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education and a Master’s degree, preferably in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction or Instructional Leadership, a State of Alaska Professional Teacher certificate and or an Alaska Type B administrator certificate.
2. Must obtain background clearance through the Alaska Department of Public Safety. As per District Policy AR 4112.5, 4212.5, 4312.5, no person(s) who has ever been convicted, or plead guilty or no contest (including forfeiture of bail) to a crime involving violence or sexual abuse will be hired by the District
3. Must be able to demonstrate a sound understanding and implementation of office procedures and protocol.
4. Must have above average communication skills and must demonstrate a cooperative attitude, and the ability to work with various personality types, including but not limited to the general public, state officials, and district administration and school personnel.
a. Must possess sound social, emotional, and professional judgment.
b. Must be able to work well and handle stress-related situations in a positive, professional manner.
5. Must be able to prioritize daily tasks to effectively and efficiently meet deadlines and district goals.
6. Must be able to work year-round and varied hours (including evenings/weekends), as needed.
7. Must be able to demonstrate a sound understanding and implementation of Alaska State Reading Initiative (AK READS ACT).
8. Must possess the ability to show classroom application of Best Teaching Practices.
9. Must possess experience in designing and providing professional development.
10. Manage program implementation of selected curriculum, assessment tool and any supplemental materials. Align program practices and Alaska Learning Standards to support quality implementation.
11. Maintain all on-line curriculum such as mClass, CKLA. AKCIS, McGraw Hill, etc…(in house duty)
12. In accordance with BP/AR 4161, select and adopt instructional materials in alignment with the policy adoption cycle.
13. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities.
Professional Development may include:
1. Work with staff to ensure all curriculum objectives are aligned with the Alaska Learning Standards.
2. Create data overviews to support staff in creating scope and sequence for content standards. Facilitate the staff in how to apply the curriculum resources to the standard aligned scope and sequence.
3. Organize and assist in presenting all in-house staff development training related to curriculum development, diagnosing curricular weaknesses through interim assessment and planning of appropriate differentiated instruction.
4. Collaborate with classroom education staff to develop individual professional development plans for staff members as needed.
5. Identify professional development opportunities offered by the state, regional professional development providers and others that align to teaching staff goals and needs.
6. Develop and facilitate a professional learning community focused on instructional excellence.
Federal Programs may include:
1. Coordinate all aspects of Federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act grants to include preparation and reporting.
2. Work with the staff to promote harmonious and cooperative relations with the administrative staff, the school board, parents, students and the community.
3. Meet on a regular basis with the Parent/Community Action Committee. Prepares the agenda for the meetings. Maintains all records (e.g., agendas, attendance sign in sheets, etc…) and post and or announce information and materials publicly as required for federal audits.
4. Implement all phases of the programs. Keeps the management and administrative staff informed concerning changes in state and federal laws and board policies as they may affect students and programs provided for students in the assigned area.
5. Develop programs, budget and grant applications or revisions consistent with the annual needs assessment.
6. Supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to work under the Federal Programs Director (e.g., CTE/Perkins Grant Coordinator, Migrant Ed. Grant Coordinator, etc…)
7. Recommend policies, procedures, and direction consistent with established KSD and Federal Program Department plans, including but not limited to financial policies and procedures for the responsible fiscal management and operation of grant programs.
8. In conjunction with the administration team, collaborate on the development, implementation, monitoring, and revision of grant applications, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
9. Collaborate with the District Office and school site Administration to promote, implement, develop, and sustain programs supported with federal funds.
10. Work to coordinate district goals, objectives, and federal program efforts with curriculum, staff development, counseling, and special education.
11. Maintain knowledge and understanding of current laws, rules, and regulations regarding federal programs.
12. Prepare and submit related grant reports and budget revisions in a timely manner.
13. Set priorities for materials, supplies, and equipment acquisition; assure that all expenditures follow district, state, and federal compliance standards
14. Coordinate Regional School Board PAC Committee meetings and activities.
15. Maintain up-to-date Federal Programs Department links on the district website.
16. Perform related duties as assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical diagrams and training instructions, and technical procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before supervisors and district employees.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving personnel in a professional and competent manner.
