Title of Position: Temporary Summer Child Care Teacher
Department: Children’s Learning Center
Classification: Temporary, Support Staff, Non-Exempt
Employment Status: Part-time (30 hours per week)
Function:
DCFS-qualified teacher responsible for planning and carrying out daily, age and developmentally appropriate activities and for performing related duties in the Child Care Center. Position would be responsible for classroom management, following all licensing and KC guidelines to ensure a safe environment for children.
Organizational Relationship:
Position reports to the Director of the Children’s Learning Center, who reports to the Dean of Career and Technical Education, who reports to the VP of Instruction, who reports to the President of the College.
Qualifications for the position:
Required:
1. 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of credit from an accredited college or university with six semester hours or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to childcare and/or child development from birth to age 6.
OR
One year (1,560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to childcare and/or child development, from birth to age 6.
2. Must be 19 years of age.
3. Ability to work a flexible schedule and be flexible in performing daily Center duties
4. Strong communication, teamwork, organization, and planning skills
5. Be a member of Gateways to Opportunity Registry (within 30 days).
6. Ability to pass DCFS background check
Preferred:
1. Previous experience in an early childhood setting such as a daycare center, daycare home, preschool, kindergarten, or nursery school.
2. CPR and First Aid certified
3. Food handlers’ certificate
Essential Functions:
1. Plan and carry out daily age/developmentally appropriate activities for children
2. Maintain a safe and orderly environment
3. Use positive guidance and redirection when interacting with the children
4. Be responsible for the physical environment of the classroom and child care center
5. Supervise children in various settings and activities, including outside the classroom, such as playground, walks or field trips, as necessary
6. Help with breakfast, lunch, and snack time, including getting meals from cafeteria
7. Maintain positive communication with parents and other Child Care Centerstaff
8. Prepare and maintain necessary records and documentation, including child care licensing requirements
9. Maintain prompt hours, notify the Director in the event of illness, maintain a neat, clean, and appropriate appearance and work cooperatively with all staff
10. Perform other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
Position will assist in providing direction to student workers and/or teacher assistants
Supervisory Controls:
Position is expected to work with a minimum amount of supervision as part of the Child Care team. Consultation with supervisor is available as needed.
Guidelines:
In performing the duties of this position, the Child Care Teacher is responsible for following all Local, State, and Federal laws and regulations and College policies and procedures. Position is also expected to adhere to and promote College Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, Honesty, and Fairness.
Personal Relationships:
Employee will have daily interaction with children, parents and College employees.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Requires ability to lift children and sufficient agility to move with groups of children.
Ability to work in a highly active, distracting, and noisy environment.
