Job Overview:
The Materials Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, and management of materials required for production within a Tier 1 automotive supplier environment. This role ensures the timely and cost-effective flow of materials through the supply chain while maintaining optimal inventory levels and minimizing production downtime. The Materials Manager will work closely with suppliers, production, and logistics teams to align material availability with production schedules, maintain relationships with key suppliers, and drive continuous improvement initiatives in material handling and procurement processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Planning and Procurement:
- Develop and execute materials planning strategies that align with production schedules and customer demand.
- Ensure timely procurement of raw materials and components from approved suppliers, maintaining adequate inventory levels without overstocking.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to forecast material requirements based on new product launches, engineering changes, and fluctuating demand.

-Supervisor all incoming receiving functions
-Manage and maintain cycle counting
-Supervisor the process of production scheduling
-Lean concepts including 5S
Supplier Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, cost management, and quality compliance.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers, ensuring cost-effective procurement while meeting quality standards.
- Monitor supplier performance through KPIs, addressing issues such as lead times, shortages, or quality non-conformance.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate reporting of materials, implementing processes to reduce waste and optimize stock.
- Implement lean principles to streamline material flow, improve inventory turnover, and reduce excess inventory or obsolete stock.
- Oversee inventory control measures, including cycle counts, physical inventory audits, and inventory variance resolution.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of materials planners, buyers, and inventory specialists.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the materials management team and across the organization.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies regarding material sourcing, quality, and safety.
- Generate and analyze reports on material usage, inventory levels, and supplier performance, presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials management or supply chain within a Tier 1 automotive or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems such as Plex, SAP or similiar and inventory management software.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, with a focus on problem-solving and process optimization.
- Certification in APICS (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or ISM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) is a plus.
