What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician position at Katahdin Valley Health Center?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Optician dispenses and fits spectacles and other optical aids, to both adults and children. All fittings will be based on the prescription written by an Optometrist. The Optician assists patients with selecting frames, measures patient for size of eyeglasses and coordinates frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Interpret optical prescriptions written by optometrists.
2. Assist patients in selecting specific lenses, lens coating, frames, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
3. Measure patients’ bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, papillary distance, and optical centers of eyes using measuring devices.
4. Determine patients’ current lens prescription, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers and patient’s eyeglasses.
5. Prepares work orders for optical laboratory.
6. Fit eyeglasses, or other vision aids.
7. Advise partially sighted patients on the use of low vision aids.
8. Advise patients when adjustments or repairs to spectacles are needed.
9. Maintain records of patient prescriptions, work orders, and payments.
10. Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information, and s daily cash up and record keeping.
11. Arrange and maintain shop displays.
12. Order and purchase frames, lenses and other optical supplies.
13. Takes patient vital signs and document.
14. Take histories and perform screening procedures as indicated.
15. Administer ophthalmic medications as ordered
16. Assists in maintaining compliance with quality assurance standards including CLIA and COLA.
17. Participate in the Care Team as outlined in Team Approach to Care Protocol
18. Performs additional duties or projects as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
19. Adheres to all KVHC policies and protocols.
20. Complies with all safety rules and protocols. Reports all incidents, regardless of severity, immediately to their supervisor and completes an incident report and investigation form, which will be forwarded to Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident.
21. Conducts themselves as a good steward in the communities served by KVHC; represents the organization at outreach activities as needed.
22. Actively participates as committee member as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
23. Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others. Focusing on the attainment of organization goals and objectives through a commitment to team work.
24. Conforms to acceptable attendance and punctuality standards as expressed in the employee handbook.
25. Abides by the organization’s compliance program and requirements
