Job Summary :
The Product Development and Production Manager reports to the COO and is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end process of product development, from conceptualization to final production. This role ensures that products align with brand objectives, quality standards, cost targets, and production timelines. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, deep knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, and a keen eye for innovation and efficiency. Additionally, this role will be responsible for vendor sourcing and performance optimization, building processes and tools to improve operations, developing junior team members, and expanding and diversifying the vendor base for scale.
Key Responsibilities :
Calendar & Project Management :
Build and manage development and production calendars, WIP, and other key product management tools.
Proactively communicate timing shifts, business needs, and impacts to vendors and cross-functional teams.
Research and document development processes and timelines for new categories and determine appropriate milestones.
Project manage all key dates from conception through production; collaborate with internal and external partners to meet deadlines and resolve issues.
Share applicable calendars with vendors to aid in successful production planning and on-time delivery.
Product Development :
Lead and manage the product development lifecycle from ideation to launch.
Collaborate with CEO / Founder, COO, design, and merchandising teams to create innovative products.
Research industry trends, materials, and manufacturing techniques to enhance product quality and innovation.
Translate product and packaging requests into actionable tasks for vendors.
Oversee prototype development, testing, and sample approvals; document comments, results, and adoption rates
Obtain accurate costing details and BOMs; negotiate cost improvements for all products.
Continuously improve current products and highlight SKU-level risks / opportunities.
Ensure cost efficiency and feasibility of designs while maintaining product integrity.
Production Management :
Develop and manage production schedules to meet deadlines and launch targets.
Source and negotiate with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors to secure cost-effective and high-quality production solutions.
Oversee quality assurance processes, conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
Manage relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring optimal lead times and material availability.
Ensure packaging and packing requirements are met for all distribution channels.
Work closely with logistics and operations teams to ensure seamless product delivery and fulfillment.
Sourcing & Vendor Management :
Drive sourcing, vendor on-boarding, compliance, and supply chain growth efforts.
Identify and onboard optimal vendors to build a strong international vendor base poised for scale
Develop and implement key vendor process management tools, such as vendor scorecards, audits, and manuals.
Develop strategies and metrics to enhance vendor performance, innovation, cost-efficiency, and risk mitigation.
Ensure vendor compliance and brand protection through education, partnership, and risk mitigation strategies.
Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors, providing timely support and solution-oriented feedback.
Cross-Functional Collaboration :
Partner with design, merchandising, marketing, and sales teams to ensure each department has needed samples, product knowledge and information to hit key milestone dates
Ensure seamless and timely hand-off for Wholesale markets and Creative photoshoots
Provide regular updates on production status, challenges, and risk mitigation plans to key stakeholders.
Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and streamline workflows.
Develop and mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Product Development, Fashion Merchandising, Business, or a related field.
5 years of experience in product development, production management, or supply chain in a consumer goods industry. Apparel experience required.
2 years of experience leading and mentoring Junior roles.
International manufacturing required. Diverse product category experience a plus.
Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing techniques, and industry best practices.
Proven experience in supplier negotiations, cost analysis, and production oversight.
Exceptional organizational skills, including managing calendars, timelines, and complex project schedules.
Ability to work under pressure, manage stress, and make quick decisions without sacrificing creative quality.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to navigate relationships with key stakeholders, especially founders.
Solution-oriented mindset to address challenges such as shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
