Qualifications:
Master’s Degree preferred
Valid Texas teaching certification or license with ESL certification
Ability to work with school, community and English Learner (EL) population
Ability to disaggregate and analyze academic data
Knowledge of state and federal law concerning English Learners (ELs)
Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills
Ability to work with content teachers
Experience in identifying and working with English Learners (ELs)
Experience in second language acquisition and ESL strategies
Experience in curriculum development
Primary Purpose:
The Program Facilitator for Secondary ESL will provide leadership in the coord ination and delivery of content instruction to secondary English Learner s . This individual will also provide training to teachers to ensure that course content is comprehensible and accessible to English Learner s .
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work directly with secondary sheltered content teachers to i ntegrate th e English Language Proficiency S tandards (ELPS) with content TEKS .
- Model instructional strategies and lessons for secondary sheltered and general education teachers .
- Implement objectives stated in Title III grant.
- Analyze data to imp rove English Learner s performance .
- Plan, facilitate, present and evaluate staff development programs for teache rs and paraprofessionals of English Learner s .
- Present research-based E SL instructional strategies to teachers .
- Work collaboratively with curriculum coordinators and campus instructional co aches to support EL instruction .
- Assist in coordinating EL Science Academy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Integrated/Coordinated Duties Required for Stipend:
- Review and make recommendations for aligned materials and supplemental resources for EL s .
- Respond to campus requests for supporting students failing to meet academic standards.
- Coordinate and consult with internal and external stakeholders regarding student needs and services.
- Assist with the coordination and implementation of extended day/year programs as appropriate.
- Participate in local, regional and state meetings and trainings as appropriate.
Equipment Used:
Interactive white board, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the teaching assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.
Working Conditions:
Work with frequent interruptions; frequent district travel; m aintain emotional control under stress; moderate lifting; occasional prolonged and irregular hours ; s ome district travel required.
