Qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling, social work, school psychology, or related field
Valid Texas certification or licensure in education, counseling, social work, school psychology, or related field (LPC, LMSW/LCSW, LSSP, LMHC preferred)
Minimum 3 years of experience in education, school mental health, or school safety
Ability to collaborate on a multidisciplinary team with other school professionals
Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sensitive situations with discretion
Understanding of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed care, mental health, behavior threat assessment and management, and best practices in crisis intervention
General knowledge of local, regional, and state community resources
Primary Purpose:
The Crisis Prevention and Intervention Specialist will support campuses by providing expertise in crisis management, intervention strategies, and mental health support. This role is essential in ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with campus administration and school mental health professionals to lead postvention efforts following a student or staff death.
- Coordinate and lead the district crisis response team following a student or staff death.
- Serve on district-level crisis and safe and supportive school program teams.
- Offer guidance, resources, and support to campus mental health professionals and administrators in managing crises and implementing intervention strategies.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of district-wide prevention programs aimed at reducing incidents of violence, bullying, and other crises.
- Collaborate with district leadership to design, update, and implement district-wide crisis prevention and intervention protocols.
- Create and deliver professional development on trauma-informed care, mental health awareness, community resources, and strategies related to emotional well-being.
- Develop and provide parent and community presentations on trauma-informed care, mental health awareness, community resources, and strategies related to emotional well-being.
- Assist campuses in developing individualized crisis intervention plans for students in need.
- Coordinate systems of care to provide wraparound services to students and families to ensure alignment with the district’s vision and strategic plan.
- Collaborate with other student support offices to provide comprehensive mental health support to campuses, students, families, and staff of Katy ISD.
- Maintain accurate records of district-level interventions and follow-up actions, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with district policies.
- Coordinate with community agencies and resources to provide additional support and services to students and families across the district.
- Serve on district/campus committees as necessary.
- Attend Community Resource Coordination Group meetings.
- Follow all district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical & responsible behavior.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Interactive white board, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, cellular phone, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. District-wide travel. Moderate lifting and carrying 15-44 pounds weekly.
