Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field
Knowledge of de-escalation and behavior intervention techniques
Valid Texas teacher's certificate in special education
Three years' classroom experience
Ability to work with school staff and parents
Experience working with students with emotional/behavioral problems
Knowledge in working with students with emotional/behavioral problems
Knowledge of state and federal special education laws
Excellent written and communication skills
Primary Purpose:
Provide intervention, consultation, and training to general education and special education staff in meeting the educational needs of students with behavioral issues and social skills deficits in a variety of educational environments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of behavioral strategies and the collection of data in the evaluation of student progress.
- Collaborate with campus and other behavior staff to provide on-going training and staff development in effective behavior management.
- Implement campus wide behavior interventions under MTSS.
- Model effective social skills and behavioral strategies or conduct demonstration lessons for specific students as specified in individual intervention plans.
- Assist campuses with creating plans for students in MTSS for behavior concerns.
- Coordinate with campus and district staff in planning and programming for students.
- Mentor new general education and special education teachers and paraprofessionals in effective classroom management strategies and program fidelity.
- Provide campus level training related to effective classroom and behavior management strategies.
- Attend required district trainings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of best practice of behavioral intervention techniques and strategies.
- Interpret and communicate federal, state, and local requirements necessary for program compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Interactive white board, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVDNCR, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Varied stressful interpersonal situations and crisis management. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate lifting and carrying of 15-44 pounds. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Prolonged use of a computer and repetitive hand motions. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through prescribed holding techniques, when necessary; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
